POKOTABI / Fuji
ふじ
Tucked into a residential pocket of Imagawa, Urayasu, Fuji serves fresh sashimi sourced from Toyosu, light tempura, varied seasonal small plates, and a satisfying omakase course in a quiet, relaxed setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Hanging its noren in a quiet residential corner of Imagawa, Urayasu, Fuji centers its craft on quality seafood and the seasonal rhythms of Japanese dining. An ideal starting point is the sashimi assortment, sized according to the party. On any given evening, selections might feature seared cutlassfish, kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), or lightly cured young sea bream (kodai sasa-zuke), highlighting clean natural sweetness and the delicate aroma of quick searing.
Beyond raw fish, the kitchen prepares a broad repertoire of small meat and vegetable plates to accompany drinks. Creative pairings include pork teriyaki skewers wrapped around Yanaka ginger and Fushimi peppers, whole roasted Kyoto eggplant finished with garlic sauce, and crisp stuffed new lotus root. Lightly battered tempura is also popular, fried cleanly to preserve the character of each seasonal ingredient.
For first-time guests or those seeking a structured meal, the omakase course is a reliable option. It unfolds through fresh sashimi, crisp tempura, and closing rice dishes, setting a leisurely pace for evening drinks. Drink pairings include an assortment of sake, beer, wine, and seasonal fruit sours.
Those finishing à la carte can turn to hearty closing dishes such as the mini tempura bowl, pork ginger rice bowl, or chilled buckwheat noodles topped with grated mountain yam and natto. The dining room offers counter seats alongside private tatami rooms that can be joined for larger groups, making it a comfortable destination for careful, unhurried Japanese dining.
